KORČULA OLD TOWN & SURROUNDINGS

Korčula old town is a medieval fortress built on the ideal location of the northeastern coast of the island of Korčula at that time for monitoring and charging the passage of galleys and sailing ships in that part of the Adriatic sea with town statute adopted in 1214. It is surrounded by walls and towers, and the streets are built in the shape of a fishbone. Among the most important historical sights, you can visit Cathedral of St. Marko, the town eternal and the restored born house of the world traveler, explorer & travel writer Marko Polo, who was born in 1254, and the Franciscan monastery from the 15th century on the Badija island.

LUMBARDA VILLAGE

Lumbarda can be reached from the town of Korčula, 6 km away, by a road that passes through olive groves and a pine forest. Lumbarda is a fishing village on the eastern cape of the island of Korčula, which has a rich history preserved in the Psefizmi stone inscription. It is a historical document from which emerges a 2,300 year old story about the ancient roots of today's Lumbarda. It is located by the sea, on the slopes of hills surrounding a valley dominated by vineyards and olive groves. Family wineries in this area produce world-renowned wines and offer the possibility of tasting their own wines and liqueurs, as well as local food on the terraces with a beautiful view of the archipelago of twenty islands, the sea and the Pelješac peninsula.

SANDY BEACH PRŽINA & SANDY BEACH BILIN ŽAL

Pržina is a very popular and well-visited beach in Lumbarda. A shallow bay facing south and overlooking the open sea towards Italy, enables pleasant swimming already in the spring until late autumn. On the beach there are two fast food & cocktail bars, a volleyball court, and it is possible to rent umbrellas and sunbeds. On the rocky part of the beach there are parts with natural shade under pine trees. The sunset from that part of the bay looks beautiful.

Bilin žal is another sandy beach in Lumbarda, located on the opposite side of Pržina beach, just a ten-minute walk through the vineyards of Grk, Rukatac and Plavac mali. Bilin žal beach has a view towards the northeast, the Pelješac peninsula and the small islands of the Korčula archipelago. In a medieval building, there is an excellent tavern. You can rent umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach.

PUPNATSKA LUKA BAY & PEBBLED BEACH

Korčula is included among the most beautiful islands in the world, and this Adriatic pearl is home to a whole series of beautiful beaches. One of them is Pupnatska luka, a heavenly beach that you should visit, at a distance of about 20 km from the town of Korčula. The special feature of this pebble beach is the crystal clear sea and the proximity of pine forests. The beach offers a wonderful view of the turquoise blue sea and the channel all the way to the island of Lastovo. Right next to the beach there is a tavern and a cafe bar where you can refresh themselves, drink coffee or have something to eat. You can rent umbrellas and sunbeds.

Inside the island, between Pupnatska luka bay and Korčula town, there is Pupnat village, the smallest and one of the oldest places on the island of Korčula, located at the highest point, 360 m above sea level. In the village, finds from Illyrian and Roman times have been found. Many ancient single-story houses covered with stone slabs have been preserved. Two taverns offer the top gastronomy of the island of Korčula.

ČARA VILLAGE & VINEYARDS

In the middle of the Čara village, next to the parish church of Saint Peter, grows an centuries old cypress which is protected under Croatian laws of nature.
The best known products of Čara are extra virgin olive oil and famous autochthonous white wine Pošip. Several family wineries offer a unique taste experience of top wines and local food in a traditional environment. The winery and oiler are situated at the end of the field. The church of Holy Mary of Čara Field from the 14th century has a lavish marble altar and alabaster reliefs, it is a famous island pilgrimage shrine.

ŽITNA PEBBLED BEACH IN ZAVALATICA BAY

The road from the fertile field of Čara leads to the pebble beach Žitna and to the nearby Zavalatica bay. The coast of the bay is steep, and the sea is crystal clear and clean thanks to sea currents that constantly bring fresh seawater from the open sea. Žitna is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Korčula. A family tavern offering local gastronomy can be found ten minutes away on foot.

SMOKVICA VILLAGE & VINEYARDS

Smokvica villag is located in the centre of the island of Korčula, on the slopes of the joined hills of Vela and Mala Obala. There are several fertile fields in the area of ​​Smokvica. Pošip is an autochthonous variety of the island of Korčula and a kind of rarity, its origin, place of discovery and the name of the inventor are known, and it is one of the first Croatian wines protected by law. It is grown in the central part of the island around Smokvica and Čara, and has recently spread to Dalmatian vineyards outside the island. The wine has a bright, straw-golden color, it sways sluggishly in the glass leaving a thick trace of high alcohol, it has a full and distinctive taste. Because of its moderate acidity, it goes perfectly with all fish, shellfish and white meat dishes. It can be tasted in several family wineries in the area.

BRNA BAY & MEDICINAL MUD

Brna is a small bay and place located on the southern coast of the island of Korčula. The bay is divided into two parts by the Mali Zaglav peninsula. The place is known for a series of small pebble beaches that are located on the southeast side of the place and are surrounded by a pine forest and the clear blue sea. Throughout history, in Brna bay there were several houses of local fishermen, where the people of Smokvica spent the night before long fishing trips. Brna developed in the 19th century when a wharf was built for the Austro-Hungarians, which served the village of Smokvica for the export of their wines. This wonderful location enabled the small fishing village to develop also into a tourist destination. In the neighboring bay of Istruga, there are six-meter deposits of medicinal mud and a sports and recreation center with two tennis courts, a bocce court, table tennis tables and a beach volleyball court. Numerous beaches, bays, clear sea, aromatic herbs, pure nature and traditional values ​​are a good reason to visit this location.

BLATO VILLAGE & SURROUNDINGS

Blato is a Mediterranean village and one of the oldest settlements on the island of Korčula, located in the middle of the western part not far from the karst field of the same name. The settlement itself is located around a flat area called Zlinje and the surrounding hills. Zlinje is also the most famous street in Blato, with its famous line of linden trees and the Villag Park, which provide exceptional shade during the summer months. The wider area is dominated by large cultivated fields, and the slopes of the surrounding hills are planted with olive trees and vineyards, and you can see unique monuments to human labor, dry walls that serve as borders of cultivated fields.

PRIŽBA BAY & PEBBLED BEACHES

Prižba place, which is located on the southern side of the island of Korčula, is 10 km from Blato willage and 40 km from Korčula town. Prižba consists of several small bays and two peninsulas: Ratak and Prišćapac, ideal for enjoying swimming and sunbathing. Prišćapac is also a small tourist place with pebble beach and all accompanying tourist facilities. On the Ratak peninsula, in the center of Prižba, there is a small monastery of the Sisters of Mercy and a pebble beach Žal with a sea sand bottom that gives it a unique turquoise color. In the vicinity of Prižba, there are numerous vineyards and luxurious villas of former Korčula nobles, coniferous forests and the beautiful islands of Čerin, Stupa, Crklica, Sridnjak and Vrhovnjak.

VELA LUKA TOWN & BAY

Located in the deep protected bay of the island of Korčula, Vela Luka is the youngest settlement on the island and at the same time a place of inspiration and the birthplace of many artists. An untouched oasis, surrounded by clear turquoise sea and dense pine forest, kilometers of old boundary drywalls and centry-old olive groves, with more than 100 km of hiking and cycling trails, Vela Luka is a true paradise for lovers of nature with magical sunsets and active tourism. Vela Luka abounds with beautiful beaches and hidden bays. Nearby are Ošjak and Proizd, islands of stunning beauty, clear turquoise sea and untouched nature, a paradise for swiming and diving.

VELA SPILA - BIG CAVE

Vela Spila is situated above Vela Luka town, at an altitude of 130 m. Its the most important archaeological site in the Mediterranean and the origin of modern civilization. A beautiful view of the large bay, the fertile Blato field, the islands of Ošjak, Kamenjak and Proizd, the more distant islands of Vis, Sušac, Sv. Andrija, Biševo, and towards the open sea, from a cave inhabited 20,000 years before Christ, leaves no one indifferent. The bottom of the cave is filled with deposits 10 m thick, in which numerous stone and ceramic artifacts, hearths, bones of wild and domestic animals and fish and several human burials were found, which indicates that the site was inhabited from the last Ice Age to the end the Bronze Age, and occasionally until today. Visitors can also access the cave itself, which is reached by a 2.5 km road from Kale bay in Vela Luka or by a 950 m long hiking trail over the hill Pinski Rat. The diversity of the valuable archaeological collection of objects found in this locality is kept by the Culture Center Museum in the center of Vela Luka town.

GRADINA BAY, PEBBLED & SANDY BEACHES

The beautiful bay of Gradina faces west in the inner part of the Vela Luka bay, about 5 km from Vela Luka. In the bay there is a small church of St. John from the 14th century, and archaeological remains bear witness to Illyrian dwellings - fortresses.  It is a very popular destination for tourists and sailors who find a safe harbor here. The bay is adorned by the small islet Gubeša and the rocky islet Kamenjak, home to a colony of seagulls. The coast is rocky, with pebble approaches to the sea, and a couple of small sandy beaches.

KNEŽE BAY, PEBBLED BEACHES & TAVERNS

It is located 3 km east from Račišće village and 10 km west from Korčula town. In this oasis of peace, smaller pebble beaches and taverns located by the sea are especially attractive for visitors. There is nice view on islands of Mala and Vela Kneža and the Pelješac peninsula. Kneže is the coastal part of Pupnat village inside the island, which is connected to it by a 3.5 km attractive narrow road through lush vegetation.

RAČIŠĆE VILLAGE & PEBBLED BEACHES

Račišće is village and a bay of the same name on the north coast of the island of Korčula, located 12 km west of Korčula town, from where you can reach it by road along the sea coast through the coves: Medvidnjak, Žrnovska Banja, Tri žala, Vrbovica and Kneže. In Račišće, right next to the sea, there are taverns that offer a traditional gastronomic offer in a pleasant environment. On the west side 2 km from village there are hidden coves and beautiful pebble beaches Vaja and Samograd, in the untouched beauty of nature, with a crystal blue sea and a view of the Pelješac peninsula, and the islands of Hvar and Šćedro.
